💧 The Sicilian Region is taking action against water scarcity and climate change with the pilot project IRRIGOPTIMAL®

Last April the Sicilian Region asked the government to deal with with extraordinary powers and means the emergency situation arising following the serious water deficit crisis underway in the regional territory. The Italian Government has therefore decided on a national state of emergency for 12 months.

🌍The Island, in fact, is affected by a long period of drought, caused both by the exceptional scarcity of of rainfall in the last autumn and winter seasons, both by the temperatures recorded more higher than average, which led, among other things, to a significant reduction in surface water outflows, as well as failure to recharge the aquifers.

🌱Experimentation is started in May at some important local agricultural companies that made their land available for the experimentation. At the Arcoria farm near Paternò Monitoring is underway on two different crops (tomatoes and oranges) while monitoring of citrus groves is underway at the Ialuna Agricultural Company in Mineo.
